Profile of The Programme

Koç University Law School aims to graduate creative and sophisticated lawyers with its content-rich courses in public law, private law, and its core program, which enables students to excel in a variety of disciplines.

The Law School owes its success to its underlying vision, targeting not only to build a connection between public policies along with bureaucracy, business circles and economy, social development, progress in the field of information technology, and the field of law, but also to contribute to the legal policies through carrying out multidimensional academic endeavors.

With an awareness of the institutional value of being recognized by virtue of academic prominence and of rendering this recognition sustainable, both faculty members and students of the Law School dedicate themselves to a program which requires profound effort and relies on academic solemnity. We are very pleased to see that efforts based on this awareness prepare the Law School graduates for distinguished and remarkable professional positions, both in the public and private sphere; and reinforce of the value the Law School rightfully achieved both at the national and international level.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students who took the equivalents of certain courses offered in Koç University in other institutions can apply to the respective College or Graduate School at Koç University to transfer those courses.

Graduation Requirements

Students need to have a GPA at or above 2.00/4.00 and need to have completed all courses on their curriculum with a passing letter grade in order to graduate.

Occupational Profiles and Access to Further Studies

Upon graduation, law school students may pursue an academic career or may choose to practice law in law firms, public institutions and agencies, companies, international organizations as well as NGOs.

Law Curriculum

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

Upon graduation, law school students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of principal features of the legal system including general familiarity with its institutions and procedures, and of legal principles and values in a wide range of topics extending beyond the core curriculum,
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of substantive and procedural law generally regarded as necessary to effective and responsible participation in the legal profession,
  3. Demonstrate some in depth knowledge of specialist areas,
  4. Identify and apply all legal sources of relevance for a specific legal issue,
  5. Perform legal analysis and to make a distinction between reasoning founded on law and policy based arguments,
  6. Identify societal concerns and values behind legal principles and rules,
  7. Identify and comprehend legal issues and to act independently in planning and undertaking complex legal tasks,
  8. Render a reasoned legal decision,
  9. Conduct legal research for giving legal advice,
  10. Advise an interested person on the possible outcome of a case,
  11. Present knowledge with range of professional presentation skills (oral and written),
  12. Use relevant IT tools and online legal sources,
  13. Aware of the ethical dimension of legal work,
  14. Use legal English effectively for relevant materials (e.g. legislation, contracts, and memos).
