Profile of The Programme

Comparative Literature program promotes a study of literature that expands cultural connections among societies and bridges disciplines. The departmental course offerings include classes in world literature, critical theory and interdisciplinary studies where students work intensively with a distinguished faculty of scholars in Turkish, Ottoman, European, Anglo-American and Postcolonial literary and cultural studies. At the same time, the major encourages students to take advantage of the rich offerings of courses in other KU departments or study abroad.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students who took the equivalents of certain courses offered in Koç University in other institutions can apply to the respective College or Graduate School at Koç University to transfer those courses.

Graduation Requirements

Students need to have a GPA at or above 2.00/4.00 and need to have completed all courses on their curriculum with a passing letter grade in order to graduate.

Our major leads to the advanced study of literature at the graduate level and provides a strong basis for advanced degrees and/or careers in education, media, publication, advertising.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

 

1- To discuss literatures and languages in an interdisciplinary and comparative context within a significant number of historical, geographical and cultural contexts
2- To demonstrate historically self-reflective and multiculturally informed understanding of texts
3- To identify the critical ideas, values, and themes that appear in literary and cultural texts and their cultural and societal impacts across ages
4- To assess the interactions between literature and other disciplines
5- To apply critical and theoretical approaches to the reading and analysis of literary and cultural texts in multiple genres
6- To develop research, reading, writing, and oral communication skills
7- To illustrate analytical and critical thinking skills
8- To demonstrate linguistic skills required for the study of literature in three different languages
9- To evaluate information from a variety of written and electronic sources
