Multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. The students will have theoretical and practical training in the emergency departments, outpatient clinics, operating rooms and inpatient sections of the hospital dedicated to Orthopedics, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Rheumatology, Hand Surgery, Spine, Radiology and Algology. The program will include basic science topics related to clinical medicine; lectures, seminars, panels, clinical presentations, examination of laboratory tests, evaluation of pathologic findings and diagnostic imaging studies and related topics. The topics will cover musculoskeletal traumas, degenerative and metabolic diseases, developmental abnormalities of musculoskeletal system, sports medicine, infectious diseases of bone and joints, tumors of bones, cartilage and soft tissues, rheumatologic diseases, and pain management in musculoskeletal system.

Aim of this course to discuss the basic neurophysiological and neuro-pathological processes in detail. The first part of the course will include basic neuro-pathophysiological mechanisms like calcium cytotoxicity, free radicals and free radical damage, protein aggregation disorders leading to neurodegeneration, apoptosis, and necrosis. Students have assignment for making a presentation regarding one of the pathophysiological mechanism. At the second part of the course pathophysiological processes leading to neuro psychiatric disorders like epilepsy, headache and pain, psychosis, anxiety disorders, subarachnoid hemorrhage and trauma will be discussed in detail. Before fina examination, student have to present a journal paper regarding disease mechanisms learned.

Multidisciplinary approach to the diseases of nervous system and ophthalmology. The content of the course includes a review of the physiological, pathological and pharmacological basic principles of the nervous system, the diagnosis and treatment principles of common nervous system diseases, infections of the nervous system, trauma, vascular, degenerative diseases and tumors, emergency service approach to adult and pediatric patients, outpatient clinics, intensive care units, surgical approach to nervous system diseases; common ophthalmologic problems such as refractive disorders, ocular trauma and emergencies, glaucoma, retinal diseases, uveitis, diseases of ocular adnexa. The students will participate in the proceedings of Adult and Pediatric Neurology, Neurosurgery, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care, Algology and Ophthalmology departments. The program will include lectures, panels, symposia, clinical presentations, demonstrations of laboratory, pathological and imaging methods.

Students will attend seminars on the new developments and applications related to neuroscience throughout the semester. The students will then provide reports on 6 of these seminars to the program coordinators.

The main purpose of this course is to provide a better understanding of sleep medicine and sleep disorders. The course will address the neurophysiological, cardiovascular, respiratory and endocrine mechanisms involved in sleep regulation as well as genetics of sleep and chronobiology. Instrumentation and methods such as polysomnography recordings and scoring of sleep stages will be presented. Students will be introduced to the multidisciplinary field of sleep medicine and be able to describe the main categories of sleep disorders including insomnia, narcolepsy, parasomnias and sleep-related breathing disorders. Initially, each participant will choose a scientific research paper relevant to the course content to review during the course period. These papers will be presented in the last session of the course and the paper work will be evaluated as part of the final grading.

This course is non-credit and aims to increase the scientific interaction between students and improve their presentation skills with the participation of students from all interdisciplinary programs. The Seminar course which is consisting of presentation of the studies and researches in front of the community within the framework of the techniques determined with the guidance of the advisor, and question and answer part are graded each semester.

Topics include, diseases (neuropathies) and tumors of the peripheral nerves, diseases (myopathies) and tumors of the skeletal muscle, diseases and tumors of the eye, neurodevelopmental disorders, brain and spinal cord trauma, cerebrovascular diseases, central nervous system infections, demyelinating diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, dysgenetic syndromes, tumors of the central nervous system, epilepsy, pathophysiology of pain, cognitive functions, disorders of altered consciousness, signs and symptoms in psychiatry, common psychiatric disorders in adults and children, reaction to illness in child, family and physician.

Anatomy and histology of central and peripheral nervous system and special sensory organs, functional anatomy of cerebral hemispheres, cerebellum, brain stem, spinal cord, ascending and descending pathways, histology of nerve tissue, eyes, photoreceptors and ears, development of the nervous system and its abnormalities, correlation of morphology with imaging modalities, neurophysiological and biophysical mechanisms of nerve functions, generation and conduction of nerve impulses, reflexes, behavioral, cognitive and emotional patterns and their psychological correlations.
